Highest-Level Iran-UAE Meeting Since War Began

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the summit, the highest level engagement between the two countries since the war started. According to Abu Dhabi’s media office, the leaders discussed regional stability, de-escalation, and efforts to advance peace, though no specific resolution was announced.

Joint Declaration Calls for Civilian Protection

The BRICS statement expressed concern over escalating tensions across the Middle East and called for maximum restraint, along with protection of civilians and respect for national sovereignty. It also emphasized safeguarding global trade, supply chains, energy flows, and maritime security amid the ongoing conflict.

Iran Has Repeatedly Targeted UAE During Conflict

The diplomatic gesture comes despite Iran having launched multiple attacks on the UAE during the six-month war, including a strike in late August on a base hosting US forces. Analysts noted the joint statement is unlikely to reshape the immediate conflict but signals unity among BRICS members.

World Leaders Push for BRICS to Play Larger Role

Host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the bloc has matured and should translate its unity into tangible global outcomes. Chinese President Xi Jinping urged BRICS nations to support a more equitable international order and called for a political settlement leading to a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East. Leaders including Russia’s Vladimir Putin and South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa also attended the summit.
