Strait of Hormuz Clashes Increase Amid Fragile Ceasefire
Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated again after renewed military exchanges in the Strait of Hormuz raised doubts about the stability of the month-old ceasefire. The situation intensified as a reported CIA assessment suggested Iran could withstand a US-led naval blockade for nearly four months without facing severe economic collapse.
According to officials familiar with the intelligence review, the report indicated that Tehran may continue operating despite pressure on its ports and shipping routes, reducing Washington’s leverage during ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
Twenty oil refineries in the Middle East have been struck since the start of the Iran war, taking more than 2.3 million barrels per day of capacity offline by mid April.

Oil Prices Jump as Gulf Security Concerns Grow
The latest clashes involved Iranian forces and US naval vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route that handles nearly one-fifth of global oil shipments. The US military said it intercepted two Iran-linked vessels attempting to enter an Iranian port.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates confirmed its air defense systems intercepted ballistic missiles and drones launched from Iran, leaving three people injured.
Brent crude prices climbed above $103 per barrel as investors reacted to growing concerns over supply disruptions and regional instability. US officials also announced new sanctions targeting companies accused of supporting Iran’s drone and weapons programs.
