The US military carried out strikes on Iran’s Qeshm port and the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, according to a senior US official. The official stated that the operation was not intended to restart a full-scale war or end the existing ceasefire, but rather a limited response within ongoing tensions in the region.
Reports also indicated additional strikes on Iran’s Bandar Kargan naval checkpoint in Minab, as US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had intercepted what it described as “unprovoked” Iranian attacks during naval operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
Strait of Hormuz Operations and Military Response
CENTCOM said US naval forces were targeted by Iranian missiles, drones, and small attack boats while three US Navy destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman. According to the command, no US vessels were hit during the incident.
The US military said it responded with self-defense strikes against Iranian missile and drone launch sites, command centers, and intelligence and surveillance infrastructure linked to the attacks.
Regional Pressure and Escalation Risk
The strikes come amid heightened instability around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route. US officials emphasized that operations remain defensive, though ongoing exchanges between Iranian and US forces continue to raise concerns over broader regional escalation.
