Japanese game developer Gumi is set to launch a new cryptocurrency fund worth approximately 3 billion yen, roughly $18.3 million, in partnership with SBI Financial Services, marking another step in the company’s growing digital asset strategy.

Fund Structure and Backing

The fund will begin operations Saturday under SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture majority-owned by SBI Financial Services, with Gumi subsidiary gC Labs holding a minority stake. Additional backing comes from Daiwa Securities Group and other investors. According to Gumi’s announcement, the fund will primarily invest in Bitcoin and major altcoins, using strategies including staking, portfolio rebalancing and hedging.

Building a Track Record Ahead of Regulatory Change

The company said the initiative aims to connect Japan’s corporate sector with the crypto market while establishing an operational history ahead of a potential future lifting of Japan’s current ban on crypto exchange-traded funds.

Part of a Broader Crypto Strategy

This launch adds to Gumi’s expanding digital asset activities, which already include managing crypto holdings centered around XRP, offering portfolio management through Hinode Technologies, and running additional crypto focused investment funds. According to the company’s latest annual report, Gumi held 14.13 billion yen in crypto assets as of late April 2026, nearly double the 7.58 billion yen it held the previous year, reflecting crypto’s growing role on its balance sheet.
