Kenya Puts 30 Million Academic Records on Avalanche Blockchain to Fight Fraud

Kenya has rolled out a blockchain based platform for verifying academic credentials through the Kenya National Examinations Council, placing more than 30 million records onto the Avalanche network. The initiative, announced Monday, aims to curb the widespread issue of forged academic certificates reported across the country each year.

How the System Works

The platform allows employers, universities and other institutions to verify academic records directly onchain, making it significantly harder to alter or fake credentials. While the system is now live, officials have not disclosed how widely it has been adopted so far by students, employers or educational institutions. Avalanche described the effort as bringing tamper-proof digital certification to Kenya.

Major Step for Blockchain in Government Use

The deployment represents one of Avalanche’s largest public-sector rollouts to date, expanding the network’s use beyond decentralized finance and digital assets into government-backed record verification. It reflects a growing trend of blockchain technology being applied to real-world institutional problems rather than purely financial applications.

Impact on Avalanche’s Token Remains Unclear

Despite the significance of the rollout, it remains unclear whether the initiative will drive demand for Avalanche’s native token, AVAX. The token was down 1.1% on Monday and continues to trade roughly 69% below where it stood a year earlier.
