LAPTOP Team Blames Bots as Traders Face Six-Figure Losses After 98% Crash
The team behind Hunter Biden's LAPTOP memecoin blamed automated trading bots and insufficient initial liquidity for the token's dramatic collapse, which saw it fall as much as 98% from its opening price. According to the project, the token launched at 5 cents into heavy demand, but liquidity was too thin to absorb the wave of bots designed to buy new token launches within seconds before regular users could react.

Onchain Data Reveals Scale of Trader Losses
Nansen recorded nearly 47,000 buy transactions against roughly 16,000 sells within the first 24 hours, involving more than 20,000 unique buyers. Among wallets examined, one trader was sitting on a combined loss of roughly $199,000, while another holding tokens without selling was down approximately $118,000. Not every buyer lost money, however, with one wallet showing an unrealized profit of about $13,000.
Team Defends Fairness of Launch Process
To address the fallout, the project plans to add 4 million additional tokens to liquidity pools starting September 10. LAPTOP’s team pushed back against claims that insiders had an advantage, stating there was no presale or special allocations for investors or influencers, and that all disclosures were published before trading began.
The team reiterated that founders’ tokens remain locked for six months with a two year vesting schedule, while a separate portion of supply is tied to outcomes of specific predictions, with tokens either burned or donated to charity depending on results.
