Lindsay Clancy Trial Faces Mistrial After Jury Deadlock

The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy reached a critical point Friday after jurors remained unable to reach a unanimous verdict following seven days of deliberations.

Judge William Sullivan said he planned to declare a mistrial after receiving another indication that the 12-member jury could not agree. However, he delayed the decision for an hour after defense attorney Kevin Reddington filed an emergency appeal seeking further review of a disputed juror. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court heard the appeal but ended its hearing without an immediate ruling.

Defense and Prosecution Arguments

Clancy faces first-degree murder charges over the deaths of her three children in January 2023. Her defense argued that she suffered postpartum psychosis and could not understand the wrongfulness of her actions, while prosecutors argued she remained capable of understanding what she was doing.

The six-week trial included more than 80 witnesses and over 300 exhibits. If a mistrial is formally declared, prosecutors would decide whether to pursue another trial with a new jury.
