Executive Protection Costs Surge in 2025

MARA’s security spending on Thiel rose significantly from 2024, when the company reported about $191,040 in personal protection costs. As a result, the CEO’s total “All Other Compensation” climbed to roughly $4.4 million in 2025 from just over $201,000 a year earlier.

The filing also revealed that chief financial officer Salman Khan received nearly $3.9 million in security related spending, including costs tied to an armored vehicle.

Crypto Wrench Attacks Drive Security Concerns

The rise in spending comes as so called “wrench attacks” increase globally, where criminals use threats, kidnapping, or violence to gain access to crypto wallets and private keys. Cybersecurity data recorded 72 verified physical crypto related incidents in 2025, marking a sharp rise from the previous year, with France emerging as one of the hardest-hit regions.
