South Korea’s Mirae Asset Financial Group is planning to build a massive digital asset business worth 150 trillion won, roughly $109 billion, centered on a new subsidiary called Digital X. Group founder and chairman Park Hyeon-joo unveiled the ambitious plan during an employee event in Seoul this week, framing it as part of what he called “Mirae Asset 3.0.”

Fresh Capital and a Path to Profitability

Alongside the growth target, Mirae Asset is weighing up to 300 billion won, around $218 million, in additional funding for the venture. The company may pursue a third-party capital raise of 200 billion to 300 billion won sometime in early 2027, depending on how quickly the business becomes profitable. Park said the goal is for Digital X to turn a profit by 2027.

Built on the Foundation of a Korean Exchange Acquisition

The plan follows Mirae Asset’s recent acquisition of a 97% stake in Korbit, a South Korean crypto exchange, which the company has since rebranded as Digital X. Going forward, Digital X will concentrate on four core areas: cryptocurrency, stablecoins, real-world asset tokenization, and security token offerings. The company also intends to tokenize physical assets such as gold, silver, and electricity, while developing new financial products and building what it calls an onchain finance ecosystem.

A Long-Term Vision Beyond Digital Assets Alone

Park said the near-term goal is to make Digital X a central pillar of the group’s broader strategy, leveraging Mirae Asset’s massive 1,500 trillion won in client assets to fuel growth. Looking further ahead, he described plans to build a global platform that blends traditional finance with digital assets, with Digital X positioned at its core.
