Noncitizen Voting Probe Expands With 100+ Federal Subpoenas Before Midterms

Federal officials have served over 100 subpoenas for data on tens of thousands of voters in at least 13 states, days before the midterms. Targets include Democratic strongholds like Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, plus Republican leaning Texas, Kansas and Georgia. Around 49 came from grand juries, so they are tied to criminal cases and harder to fight in court.

Courts Push Back on Voter Roll Demands

The Justice Department sued 30 states over voter rolls and has lost every ruling so far. A judge also limited Homeland Security field work in nine states on October 21. California rejected a claim about 20,000 noncitizen ballots after finding that nearly 40% of 200 checked records were US born.

Fears of Post Election Disputes

Ben Berwick of Protect Democracy warned the records could fuel weak legal challenges to close results. Former US attorney Paul Charlton called the effort a distraction. Democrats need four Senate seats and five House seats to take control.
