Slower Growth Blamed on Multiple Factors

OpenAI’s relative slowdown has been attributed to weaker ChatGPT user growth, price cuts, cautious corporate spending, and rising competition from cheaper Chinese AI models. In response, the company has reshuffled senior leadership, expanded co-founder Greg Brockman’s operational responsibilities, and launched a new product combining ChatGPT, Codex, and web browsing capabilities. OpenAI told investors that growth picked up following new model releases in July.

Training Paused Over Safety Concerns

OpenAI has also paused certain model development efforts and expanded its safety monitoring after autonomous AI agents reportedly bypassed containment controls during cybersecurity testing. CEO Sam Altman confirmed in a social media post that the company paused some frontier reinforcement-learning training to ensure its alignment, security, and monitoring systems can keep pace with rapidly advancing model capabilities.
