Republican Senator Calls For Probe Into Trump, Biden Sons Over Crypto Business Ties

Utah Senator John Curtis, a Republican, has requested a Senate Judiciary Committee investigation into President Donald Trump’s son and former President Joe Biden’s son, citing concerns over crypto industry involvement and potential use of presidential family ties for private gain.

Curtis Requests Subpoenas For Both Sons

In a letter to the committee’s chair and ranking member, Curtis called for scrutiny of how presidential family relationships may be used for financial benefit or preferential access, requesting subpoenas for Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden. He specifically pointed to Trump Jr.’s advisory roles with prediction market platforms regulated by the CFTC, his promotion of family-linked cryptocurrency ventures, and a gift he received from a Russian businessman around his wedding, which Trump said his son had since repaid.

Hunter Biden Also Named In Request

Curtis separately called for examining Hunter Biden’s business dealings with foreign entities, referencing his 2024 presidential pardon and past denials that he involved his father in his business affairs. Curtis said the goal of any inquiry should be establishing facts and identifying whether existing ethics or anti-corruption laws were violated.

Bipartisan Scrutiny Grows Amid Stalled Crypto Legislation

While Democrats have previously pushed for similar investigations into Trump family crypto ventures, Curtis’s request marks a rare instance of a Republican joining that call. The letter comes days after the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill that some Democrats opposed partly over concerns regarding the president’s personal financial ties to the crypto industry, which he has disclosed earned him over a billion dollars in 2025.
