Revolut Gets Gibraltar Crypto License to Grow Its Global Reach

UK-based fintech and neobank Revolut has secured a crypto services license in Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission granted a Distributed Ledger Technology Provider license to Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited, a newly created subsidiary, according to a Monday announcement. The company plans to use it to offer digital asset services in markets beyond the UK and the European Economic Area.

Which Markets Come Next

A Revolut spokesperson said the license will allow crypto services in additional international markets. No specific countries or launch dates have been shared yet.

Revolut’s Current Crypto Operations

Revolut already offers crypto through Revolut Ltd in the UK and Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd across the EEA, where it operates under the EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation, known as MiCA. The company reports more than 80 million retail customers worldwide, including about 16 million crypto users.

The Gibraltar license follows other approvals this year. In July, Revolut received in principle approval to offer crypto services in Dubai. In September, US regulators gave preliminary conditional approval for it to set up a national bank offering digital asset custody and crypto related payment services.
