Ripple has now received full sign off from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for Ripple National Trust Bank, ending a chartering process that began with a conditional green light in December 2025. The announcement came Monday, October 26, and gives the company a federally supervised base for some of its core stablecoin and custody work.
What the New Bank Can Do for RLUSD
Under the charter, the bank can hold the reserves that back the RLUSD stablecoin, serve as collateral trustee for the benefit of token holders, and offer digital asset custody. Issuance itself will not move. Standard Custody & Trust Company, Ripple’s limited purpose trust company overseen by the New York Department of Financial Services, will keep issuing RLUSD.
CEO Brad Garlinghouse said on X that crypto and banks work better together, pointing to federal oversight and accountability as the proof.

How Ripple Compares With Other Crypto Charter Applicants
Circle won its final approval in July. Coinbase, which got a preliminary nod in April, still waits at the conditional stage, as do Crypto.com and Stripe owned Bridge, both cleared conditionally in February.
It is a federally chartered institution built to hold and manage assets for clients. Most do not take deposits or issue loans, and they generally lack FDIC insurance, according to the OCC.
