Russian Drone Strikes Kill Five Across Ukraine as Attacks Hit Kyiv Market and Data Centres

Russian drones set fire to a market on the western edge of Kyiv on Sunday, killing two people and wounding about 10, according to Ukrainian prosecutors. Three more people died in separate strikes in other regions. Kyiv’s mayor said nine people were hurt in the capital, including a child, with six taken to hospital. Drones also damaged high rise apartment buildings and hit areas near a kindergarten and a playground. Russian forces have long attacked Ukrainian cities mostly at night, but in recent weeks they have been striking almost nonstop during the day.

Sumy and Kharkiv Also Hit

In Sumy, a frequent target near the border, three glide bombs landed near a family support centre and killed two people, the regional governor said. Russia has long said it wants to turn parts of the region into a buffer zone. In Kharkiv, a drone hit a car and killed the driver. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the attacks terrorism, saying Russia has no military goal and only wants to break people and hurt society. He said Russia sent 277 attack drones since Saturday, 155 of them jet-powered models that fly higher and are harder to intercept. One target in Kyiv was a building used as a residence by the Saudi Arabian ambassador.

Data Centres and Telecom Infrastructure Targeted

Ukraine’s largest mobile provider said its headquarters was struck in continued attacks on data centres and communications infrastructure, with no casualties. Russia’s defence ministry said its forces hit two data centres in Kyiv, a logistics hub in Odesa and two cargo vessels heading to the port.
