The US Securities and Exchange Commission has scheduled an open meeting this week to weigh new rules for digital asset offerings, stepping in where lawmakers have so far failed to act.
Meeting Agenda Targets Crypto Investment Contracts
According to the agenda posted for Friday’s session, the commission will consider a tailored offering framework for certain investment contracts tied to crypto assets. The move comes days after the Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, known as CLARITY, which aimed to give regulators a clear framework for overseeing digital assets.
SEC Chair Signals Readiness to Act
SEC Chair Paul Atkins had said ahead of the recess that the agency stood ready to issue its own rules if Congress could not pass the bill. An SEC spokesperson said the commission remains supportive of bipartisan efforts to get CLARITY to the president’s desk, while working within its existing authority to advance a regulatory framework for digital assets.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has filed a cloture motion for when lawmakers return on September 14, though the bill still faces hurdles before reaching the House and the president’s desk.
