Senator Lummis Pushes For CLARITY Act Vote Before Senate Recess

Congress has only a few days left to vote on the CLARITY Act before the Senate breaks for its month-long August recess, with lawmakers yet to confirm a firm schedule. Senator Cynthia Lummis said in a Wednesday X post that she expects the Senate to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act before recess begins. "It's just time to get people on the record," the Wyoming senator said.

Bill Faces Democratic Pushback Over Ethics Concerns

The CLARITY Act passed the House in July 2025 by a 294-134 vote but remains stalled in the Senate, with many Democrats seeking stronger ethics rules tied to President Trump’s crypto investments after he disclosed earning more than $1.4 billion from digital assets in 2025.

60 Votes Needed To Overcome Filibuster

As of Wednesday, no vote appeared on the Democrats’ calendar, though Senate Majority Leader John Thune is reportedly still aiming to schedule one before Saturday. The bill requires 60 votes to invoke cloture. Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican, has said he won’t support the bill until banking-related concerns are addressed, despite an earlier compromise with banking groups over stablecoin yield.

Recess Could Delay Bill Into Midterm Season

If the Senate leaves Friday without a vote, the bill’s consideration would be pushed into mid-September, closer to the 2026 midterm elections.
