Solana has reduced its blockchain slot time to 350 milliseconds, marking the first such change since the network’s genesis. The update is part of a broader effort to lower latency and speed up transaction confirmations across the blockchain.
Path Toward 200 Milliseconds
Solana Foundation vice president of technology Jacob Creech confirmed the update, noting that the next target is 300 milliseconds. Average slot times currently sit at 360 milliseconds, down from the network’s original 400-millisecond benchmark. The Solana Foundation first outlined plans in June to gradually cut slot times from 400ms to 200ms, with three additional 50-millisecond reductions still planned.

Rollout Details
All four stages of the reduction are expected to activate on mainnet through Agave v4.2, a validator client built by Anza, though the timeline remains tentative. The underlying proposal, SIMD-0525, which established the shorter slot times, was approved and merged in May.
