Trump Says CFTC Working to Bring Hyperliquid to US, HYPE Price Jumps

President Trump said regulators are actively working to bring Hyperliquid into the US market in a fully compliant manner, sending the platform's native token HYPE up more than 11% within hours. Speaking at a White House gathering of crypto and tech executives on Wednesday, Trump credited CFTC Chairman Michael Selig with leading the push to open access for the decentralized derivatives exchange, which currently blocks US users.

Key Officials Present at the Meeting

The event included executives from Coinbase, Ripple, and Nasdaq, along with SEC Chair Paul Atkins and CFTC Chair Selig. Selig indicated he would share further details on the regulatory path forward on Thursday, timed just ahead of the CFTC’s first-ever Innovation Advisory Committee meeting in Washington, which covers crypto assets, AI, and prediction markets.

Industry Groundwork Already Underway

The announcement follows a July petition from the Hyperliquid Policy Center and wallet provider Phantom, urging the CFTC to exempt decentralized finance protocols from traditional exchange regulations.

HYPE Token Reacts Sharply

HYPE climbed over 6% following the comments, trading near $68, pushing its market capitalization to roughly $15.1 billion and keeping it among the top ten cryptocurrencies by value. Analysts note that legitimate US access could bring significant new trading volume, given the depth of American derivatives markets.

Obstacles Still Remain

Despite the optimism, resistance continues from traditional exchanges like CME Group and ICE, which have reportedly raised concerns over manipulation risks and sanctions exposure. Unresolved compliance questions, including registration and know-your-customer requirements, also complicate mapping traditional rules onto Hyperliquid’s non-custodial trading model.
