Trump Says Iran Ceasefire Remains Active After US Navy Destroyers Attacked

Fresh clashes between US and Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz have raised concerns over the stability of the month-old ceasefire between both countries. President Donald Trump said three US Navy destroyers came under attack while passing through the strategic waterway, though he confirmed no American vessels were damaged. Iran claimed US forces violated the ceasefire first by targeting an oil tanker, another ship and civilian areas near Qeshm Island before Iranian forces responded.

Iranian military officials stated their attacks targeted US naval assets near the Strait of Hormuz and south of Chabahar. However, US Central Command said none of its assets were struck during the exchange.

The renewed fighting also affected Gulf states, with the UAE reportedly activating air defenses against Iranian drones and missiles. Despite the escalation, both Washington and Tehran indicated diplomatic talks are still continuing.

Global markets reacted quickly as Brent crude climbed above $100 per barrel amid fears of disruption to oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a route responsible for nearly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade.
