Trump Signals Final Decision on Iran Deal as Hormuz Strait Reopening Becomes Key Demand

U.S. President Donald Trump said he will soon decide whether to approve a proposed agreement aimed at extending the ceasefire with Iran, as negotiations continue over key issues linked to the ongoing conflict.

Trump Iran Deal Conditions Focus on Nuclear Program and Hormuz Strait

Speaking on Friday, Trump said Iran must agree never to develop a nuclear weapon and immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted shipping without tolls. He added that U.S. officials met in the White House Situation Room for around two hours to review the proposal before making a final determination.

A White House official said any agreement must satisfy Washington’s red lines, especially preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Iran Pushes Back on US Demands

Iranian officials signaled that a political understanding may be close but rejected claims that nuclear issues are part of the current framework. Tehran also maintained that control of the Strait of Hormuz should remain a decision shared between Iran and Oman.

Reports suggest Iran is seeking sanctions relief and access to frozen assets, while the U.S. has indicated any easing of restrictions would happen gradually.
