Trump Urges Congress to Pass CLARITY Act at White House Crypto Summit

President Trump called on Congress to advance the CLARITY Act during a White House event Wednesday attended by executives from Coinbase, Gemini, Ripple, Chainlink Labs, and other crypto companies. Trump pushed for what he called a fair version of the bill, describing it as powerful legislation that would keep the US ahead of China and open the door to future innovation.

Meeting Precedes First CFTC Innovation Committee

The gathering came just before the CFTC’s newly formed Innovation Advisory Committee held its first meeting Thursday, featuring executives from Kraken, Anchorage Digital, Grayscale, OKX, and leaders from prediction markets and AI companies. Chainlink Labs CEO Sergey Nazarov said Trump brought executives into the Oval Office for additional discussion, asking for feedback on next steps and identifying a handful of senators who still need convincing.

Ethics Debate Remains a Sticking Point

While the administration’s crypto agenda has gained momentum, with the SEC proposing new crypto rules and Treasury outlining its stablecoin approach, the CLARITY Act remains tangled in a Senate ethics debate. Democratic negotiators continue pushing for stronger limits on Trump’s personal crypto involvement and broader conflicts of interest across government officials.

Narrow Window Remains Before Election Recess

The bill faces one final Senate window next month before Congress breaks until after the November elections, though it hasn’t yet been tested for the 60 votes needed to pass. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called the bill a genuine bipartisan compromise that would make the administration’s crypto progress durable for decades. SEC Chair Paul Atkins added that his agency’s new crypto proposal is designed to support the same goal, giving entrepreneurs legal certainty while Congress works toward final passage.
