The United States and Iran are expected to hold new talks in Doha, Qatar, after days of military escalation around the Strait of Hormuz threatened ongoing peace efforts. U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran had requested a meeting, although earlier the same day, senior Iranian negotiator Kazem Gharibabadi said no technical talks had been confirmed.

Hormuz Dispute Remains the Main Sticking Point
The latest tensions followed clashes linked to efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz without Iranian oversight. Iran responded with attacks after objecting to the move, while the United States carried out strikes against Iranian targets following attacks on commercial shipping.
Despite conflicting public statements, communication channels remain open, and technical discussions are expected to continue. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also welcomed the interim agreement, saying it includes the release of $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets held by Qatar, describing it as a major achievement for Iran.
