The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia reported new drone incidents on Sunday as tensions linked to the ongoing Iran conflict continued to grow despite a fragile ceasefire.

UAE officials said a drone strike caused a fire near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant after hitting an electrical generator outside the facility’s inner perimeter. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries and no radioactive material was released. The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation said the plant remained safe and radiation levels were unaffected.

The UAE defense ministry said two additional drones were intercepted successfully after being launched from the country’s western border. Officials said an investigation is underway to determine who was responsible for the attack, adding that the country reserves the right to respond to what it called “terrorist attacks.”

Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones Entering From Iraq

Saudi Arabia also reported intercepting three drones that entered its airspace from Iraq. Officials warned that the kingdom would take operational measures against any attempt to threaten its sovereignty or national security.

Recent months have seen several drone launches from Iraq targeting Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, even after an April ceasefire slowed direct fighting in the wider Iran conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump increased pressure on Iran, warning in a Truth Social post that “the clock is ticking” and urging Tehran to move quickly toward an agreement. Trump reportedly plans to meet national security advisers this week to discuss military options.

Strait of Hormuz Dispute Adds to Crisis

Diplomatic negotiations remain stuck as the U.S. demands Iran dismantle its nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, however, is seeking compensation for war damage and an end to restrictions on its ports.
