Ukraine’s Parliament Accepts PM Yulia Svyrydenko’s Resignation Amid Cabinet Reshuffle

Ukraine’s parliament has formally accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s weekend announcement that he planned to reshape his cabinet.

Zelenskyy Cites Need for Political Shift

In her farewell address, Svyrydenko said the past year had demanded tough decisions and thanked those who supported her, adding that she has always believed results matter most. Zelenskyy said on social media that after discussions with Svyrydenko, they agreed a cabinet reshuffle was necessary, describing it as part of a broader change in political strategy. He did not name her replacement but said she had been offered a role leading relations with a key international partner, with some Ukrainian media speculating she could become ambassador to the United States.

According to Kyiv Independent sources, Serhii Koretskyi, head of state energy company Naftogaz, is being considered as her successor, though this remains unconfirmed.

Background and EU Integration Continues

Svyrydenko, previously Ukraine’s economy minister, became prime minister in July 2025 at age 39 after helping negotiate a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States. Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka said Tuesday the government changes will not affect Ukraine’s EU integration efforts, speaking in Brussels ahead of a new round of accession talks.
