Ukrainian Drone Makers Expand into Asia as Taiwan Security Fears Grow

Ukrainian drone companies are expanding into Asia as rising tensions over Taiwan push regional militaries to strengthen their defense capabilities against China. Firms such as UFORCE, Skyeton, General Cherry, and Swarmer are seeking partnerships in Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines to scale production and access new markets.

UFORCE CEO Oleg Rogynskyy recently visited Tokyo to promote large scale drone manufacturing cooperation. The company has already gained battlefield experience in the Black Sea, where its maritime drones have been used in operations against Russian forces. U.S. military exercises have also tested similar systems in the Indo-Pacific region, showing growing interest in Ukrainian technology.

Japan Emerges as Key Drone Production Hub

Japan is seen as a major manufacturing gateway for Ukrainian firms due to its industrial capacity and recent shift in defense policy allowing greater arms production. Tokyo has allocated around $2 billion for drone systems and aims to significantly expand annual output in the coming years.

Officials in Japan, including former defense minister Itsunori Onodera, have supported deeper cooperation, saying Ukraine’s combat-tested systems offer proven effectiveness for modern warfare.

Taiwan Tensions Drive Demand for Unmanned Systems

U.S. military leaders have described future Taiwan conflict scenarios as an “unmanned hellscape,” highlighting drones as a key defensive tool. Ukrainian firms are also exploring partnerships in Taiwan and the Philippines, where maritime tensions with China are increasing.

Industry experts say Asia’s growing defense spending and shifting security landscape are creating new opportunities for Ukraine’s drone sector while reshaping regional military strategies.
