TransparentBusiness Inc., operating as Unicoin, has filed suit against Uniswap Labs in federal court in New York, seeking a court ruling that its UNICOIN branding does not infringe on or dilute Uniswap’s trademarks. The complaint also asks the court to cancel the existing US trademark registration for UNI.
Dispute Stems From Series of Demand Letters
According to the filing, Uniswap’s legal counsel sent three separate letters in June, July and August accusing Unicoin of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting and unfair competition. Those letters reportedly demanded that Unicoin stop using its branding, transfer its domain names to Uniswap, provide financial records, and cover Uniswap’s legal costs. Unicoin’s lawsuit also seeks a declaration that its domain names do not violate federal anti-cybersquatting law.
Timing Coincides With Upcoming Token Launch
The legal action comes just weeks ahead of Unicoin’s planned September 28 public launch of its UNCN token. Uniswap currently ranks as the top decentralized exchange by trading volume, processing billions of dollars in transactions daily. Uniswap has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit.
