Fresh military action between the United States and Iran raised fears of a wider conflict this week, but reports of a possible ceasefire agreement have offered hope that both sides may avoid further escalation.

US-Iran Ceasefire Talks After Latest Strikes

According to reports, the United States and Iran have reached an outline agreement to extend their ceasefire, although the plan still requires approval from President Donald Trump. The proposed deal reportedly includes a 60-day memorandum of understanding aimed at maintaining the truce and beginning talks on Iran’s nuclear program.

The reported agreement came shortly after Iran targeted a US airbase in Kuwait on Thursday. The attack followed US military action near the Strait of Hormuz, where US Central Command said forces shot down five Iranian attack drones and struck a ground control station in Bandar Abbas that officials said was preparing to launch another drone.

A US official described the operation as “measured” and “purely defensive,” saying the goal was to maintain the ceasefire.

Iran Response and Regional Concerns

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted the US base involved in the early morning strike near Bandar Abbas airport. Iranian media reported the group warned that any repeat attack would bring a “more decisive response.”

Kuwait condemned the missile attack and called it a serious escalation. The country said its defense systems intercepted threats aimed toward its territory.

The latest violence is the second major flare-up this week and comes during Eid al-Adha celebrations across the region.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a major issue in negotiations because it is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Oil prices moved higher after news of the attacks but later dropped.
