US Completes 10th Consecutive Night Of Strikes On Iran

The US military said late Monday it had wrapped up its latest round of strikes on Iran, marking ten straight nights of attacks. US Central Command said the roughly five hour operation targeted Iranian military command centers, missile and drone launch sites, maritime capabilities, and air defense systems.

Strikes Aimed At Protecting Shipping Routes

Washington said the goal of the campaign is to weaken Iran’s ability to keep attacking commercial vessels moving through the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made through a post on Central Command’s social media account.

A War That Has Spread Across The Region

The conflict began on February 28 when the US and Israel struck Iran, prompting Iran to respond with attacks on Israel and Gulf states hosting American military bases. Since then, strikes from the US and Israel, along with Israeli attacks on Lebanon, have killed thousands of people and displaced millions inside Iran. The war has also driven up oil prices and rattled global financial markets.

Rising US Casualties And Widening Targets

US troop deaths in the conflict climbed to 17 over the weekend following a particularly deadly stretch. President Trump vowed retaliation against Iran on Monday in response. In the past week, Trump also raised the possibility of expanding the list of targets to include energy plants and bridges, a move that has drawn concern given international humanitarian law. The 1949 Geneva Conventions prohibit attacks on infrastructure considered essential to civilian life, and legal experts in the US previously warned that striking such targets could amount to war crimes.
