US House Approves $70 Billion Immigration Enforcement Funding Bill
The US House of Representatives has passed a $70 billion funding bill to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol through the remainder of President Donald Trump’s administration. The legislation passed with a narrow 214–212 vote, largely following party lines, and now moves to the White House for final approval.

The bill had already cleared the Senate through a fast-track reconciliation process, which allowed Republicans to bypass Democratic opposition. Representative Kevin Kiley, a Republican-turned independent, joined Democrats in voting against the measure.
Political Divide Over Immigration Enforcement Funding
Republicans used reconciliation rules to advance the bill despite strong resistance from Democrats, who opposed increased enforcement funding following the fatal shootings of two Americans by immigration agents earlier in the year. Democrats also pushed for reforms but were unable to secure an agreement with the administration.
Earlier disputes over immigration enforcement funding contributed to a 76-day partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, which ended in April after a separate bipartisan funding deal.
Controversial Provisions and Removed Additions
During negotiations, Republicans removed proposed funding for a White House ballroom project. They also defeated amendments targeting a separate “anti weaponization” fund, which the administration later indicated would not move forward.
The bill marks a major increase in funding for US immigration enforcement agencies and is expected to shape immigration policy and border operations through the remainder of the current administration.
