The United States completed its eighth consecutive night of strikes against Iran early Sunday, following earlier confirmation that at least two American service members were killed in Jordan. The military also confirmed a third death, reporting that a service member was killed Saturday in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone. Conflict Deepens Over Strait of Hormuz Control

Tensions between the two nations have intensified since a temporary ceasefire agreement collapsed last month, with both sides increasingly focused on controlling the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route handling roughly a fifth of global oil trade. US Central Command said the latest strikes were intended to further limit Iran’s ability to threaten shipping through the strait while responding directly to the attacks that killed American personnel in Jordan. Gulf Allies Report Fresh Iranian Attacks

Iran responded with drone strikes targeting US military assets at bases in Kuwait, according to Iranian state media. Kuwait reported that a desalination plant had been struck for the second consecutive day, causing a fire and prompting officials to describe it as a direct attack on civilian infrastructure. Bahrain’s air defenses intercepted a separate Iranian attack, while Jordan’s military said it shot down three incoming missiles, with sirens sounding across the country. Jordan formally summoned Iran’s diplomatic representative in protest.

Nuclear Site and Shipping Disputes Add to Tensions

Iranian officials condemned a US strike on a nuclear power plant still under construction, though international nuclear inspectors said the facility remained in very early stages of development. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also reported an incident involving vessels attempting to transit the strait, describing it only as an “accident” without further detail, as both nations continue targeting shipping activity in the region.
