Investing Across the Stablecoin Stack

During its earnings call, Visa laid out its approach to stablecoins, saying it is putting resources into several parts of the ecosystem at once, covering blockchain networks, issuance, wallets, infrastructure and applications. The company said this quarter brought progress specifically in the issuance and application layers.

OpenUSD and Tokenized Deposits

Visa also confirmed it has joined the OpenStandard consortium, which is working toward issuing a stablecoin called OpenUSD for cross-border money movement. Visa’s own stablecoin platform aims to let partners settle payments in stablecoins, offer onchain wallet infrastructure, and convert funds between fiat and stablecoins, starting with OpenUSD. The platform will additionally connect with Pismo to bring tokenized deposit support to banks, with more infrastructure partners expected later.

AI Named as Complementary Growth Driver

Visa framed artificial intelligence alongside stablecoins as two connected growth areas, noting that while stablecoins reshape payment backends, AI is changing the frontend through agentic commerce. Cross border volume rose 13% year over year, or 12% excluding intra-Europe activity, while processed transactions increased 10%.
