The Justice Department has created a specialized unit aimed at stopping dangerous misuse of advanced AI, and it arrives with a new official label. Under a presidential instruction to say “super intelligence” (SI) instead of AI, the group is called the Super Intelligence Task Force.

Why the DOJ Is Stepping Into the AI Fight

The unit will work beside the SI Force already run by Jay Clayton. Attorney General Todd Blanche said the department wants these systems to serve ordinary Americans and not become tools for manipulation by wrongdoers inside or outside the country. His office promises to keep charging anyone who breaks the law with SI, particularly when taxpayers, vital infrastructure or national security are the targets.

Who Prosecutors Are Watching

The department named three groups of concern: hackers working for foreign governments, international criminal networks, and people or businesses committing fraud. Companies that build or use AI are also being told to keep strong internal checks so their systems act as designed.

Crypto Takes a Back Seat

The focus on AI comes while the administration’s crypto efforts appear to be fading. The office that once helped push digital asset bills through Congress sits empty, and the AI role now held by Clayton formerly included crypto duties that have disappeared.
