The document, titled the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, outlines the framework for ending the conflict and launching negotiations for a broader settlement.
Key Terms of the US-Iran Agreement
The memorandum begins with a commitment to the immediate and permanent end of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. It also states that the United States will fully lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports within 30 days.
In return, Iran will provide safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz without charging transit fees for a period of 60 days.
60-Day Negotiation Period Begins
Both countries have agreed to negotiate a final agreement within 60 days, with the option to extend talks through mutual consent. The document includes signatures from representatives of both governments, while Pakistan signed as the mediator and official witness to the agreement.
