Xi Jinping Backs an All Dimensional Strategic Partnership

In his opening remarks, Xi said he was keen on what he called an all dimensional strategic partnership between the two countries. He described Beijing and Berlin as standing at the start of a new chapter in their relations. According to Xi, both nations have a duty to lead and build a new model of cooperation resting on equality, mutual benefit and strategic stability.

Openness Over Confrontation

Xi said this new approach sends a positive signal to the world, one that favors openness over closure and cooperation over confrontation.

Steinmeier on Rules Based International Order

Steinmeier told Xi that the world needs China to play its part in keeping the international order intact, meaning the rules based system of global governance built on the UN Charter. He said both countries share responsibility for that order and for the conditions under which states deal with one another and shape their relations.
