Aave’s V4 protocol has surpassed $250 million in deposits, marking a notable milestone for the decentralized lending platform despite a tough environment across DeFi. The growth reflects upgrades to capital efficiency, risk management and lending options designed to attract more liquidity to the platform.

Not All Deposits Represent New Capital

A portion of the deposits came from users shifting their existing positions from Aave’s older V3 version rather than fresh capital entering the ecosystem. Still, there are signs that new deposits are flowing in alongside the migrated funds, which will be key for sustained growth going forward.

Total Value Locked Recovers, But Slowly

Aave’s total value locked previously hit an all-time high near 13.4 million ETH before dropping sharply during a broader market downturn. It has since recovered to about 7.4 million ETH, showing that a full rebound is taking time even as investor sentiment improves. Withdrawals continuing to offset new inflows are also limiting overall liquidity growth.

Rising Demand For Liquid Staking Collateral

Deposits of cbETH into Aave jumped from roughly $18–20 million in May to around $70 million by early July, pointing to stronger demand for liquid staking assets and reinforcing the platform’s lending capacity.

Aave’s ability to keep expanding will depend on attracting genuinely new capital over time, rather than relying on funds simply moving between its own versions.
