Raiffeisen Bank International, an Austrian financial group operating throughout Central and Eastern Europe, is deepening its involvement in digital assets through a group wide partnership with cryptocurrency platform Bitpanda. The arrangement will give RBI’s network of affiliated banks access to crypto infrastructure they can use to launch their own digital asset services, potentially reaching approximately 18 million customers across the region.
Rollout Pace Left To Individual Markets
According to a joint announcement Wednesday, each bank within the RBI network will decide its own service offerings and implementation timeline based on local regulatory conditions and market demand. RBI Chief Executive Michael Höllerer said the bank has observed rising customer interest in cryptocurrency across its various markets and is responding directly to that demand, framing the move as consistent with the bank’s customer-focused approach.

Expansion Builds On Existing Austrian Partnership
This latest agreement extends a crypto integration that RBI first launched with Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien back in 2024. The service is already operating in Austria, and a bank spokesperson indicated the broader rollout will extend to Albania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia during the first half of 2027.
Bitpanda’s Regulatory Standing Supports Expansion
Bitpanda operates under authorization from the European Union’s Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation framework, giving it regulatory standing to work with traditional banking institutions across the bloc. The company indicated it maintains ongoing conversations with various banks and financial institutions exploring crypto brokerage partnerships, though it declined to discuss any additional talks currently underway.
