Ratio Reaches All-Time High

Data from CryptoQuant released Friday shows the Bitcoin futures-to-spot volume ratio on Binance hit 7.82, an all-time high. Daily futures volume reached $57.82 billion this week, while spot trading trailed significantly at $6.08 billion. CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain noted that with bitcoin trading near $64,000, futures volume continues growing faster than spot, reflecting a shift toward leverage, risk management, and short-term trading strategies among market participants.

Retail Demand Continues to Fade

The record split follows months of declining investor demand, particularly among retail traders, some of whom have shifted capital toward AI stocks instead. On a rolling 30-day basis, both spot and derivatives demand have weakened, though spot has shown a more consistent decline since June. Bitcoin has spent the past two months trading in a narrow range above $60,000, contributing to reduced spot interest. CryptoQuant noted that while futures demand remains net positive, it has dropped significantly compared to the rebound seen three months ago.

Traders Eye September Breakout Potential

Crypto exchange Bitfinex flagged decaying volume across both spot and derivatives markets this week as traders assess the odds of bitcoin finally breaking out of its current trading range.
