BlackRock has taken another step toward launching a new bitcoin investment product after filing a Form 8-A with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing relates to the proposed iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF and is widely viewed as a sign that the fund could begin trading in the near future.
BlackRock Bitcoin ETF Nears Market Debut
A Form 8-A is used to register securities under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and is often filed shortly before a product launches. Market analysts believe the latest filing suggests the ETF could start trading as early as next week.
The proposed fund is designed to provide investors with exposure to spot bitcoin while also generating income. Unlike traditional spot bitcoin ETFs, the strategy will actively sell call options linked primarily to BlackRock’s existing spot bitcoin ETF, IBIT, which is currently the largest bitcoin ETF in the market.

Yield Strategy Targets Income-Seeking Investors
Recent regulatory documents show the fund will charge a sponsor fee of 0.65%, a level that is lower than several competing covered-call bitcoin ETFs. The approach aims to generate additional returns through options premiums while maintaining bitcoin exposure.
Competition Growing in Bitcoin ETF Market
The launch comes as competition in the crypto ETF sector continues to increase. Other major financial firms are also pursuing income-focused bitcoin funds, highlighting growing institutional demand for cryptocurrency investment products that combine exposure with potential yield generation.
