A senior Russian military official was killed in a car bombing near Moscow on Tuesday morning, according to media reports and local sources. The explosion occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a device planted under a BMW detonated as Col Damir Davydov was driving near his home in the city of Balashikha.
Security footage reportedly showed the vehicle bursting into flames and crashing into a parked car, with bystanders rushing to pull the officer from the wreckage. He was later confirmed dead from his injuries. One witness said Davydov was still alive when removed from the burning vehicle but suffered severe burns.
Senior Role in Russian Military Supply Chain
Col Damir Davydov, aged 57, headed the Russian military’s artillery and missile ammunition supply directorate. His role involved overseeing the distribution of weapons and ammunition to Russian armed forces, making him a key figure in military logistics during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The attack is the latest in a series of targeted killings of Russian military officials and pro-war figures since the start of the war in Ukraine. Similar incidents have previously occurred in the same region, raising concerns about internal security vulnerabilities.
Security Concerns Grow After Repeated Attacks
No official statement has been issued by Russia or Ukraine regarding the incident. However, Russian officials have described such attacks as unacceptable and called for stronger responses.
The bombing adds to growing pressure on Russian security agencies, as similar high-profile attacks have taken place despite increased protective measures for military and political figures across the country.
