Russia Fires Oreshnik Missile in Kyiv Attack

The attack marked only the third known use of Russia’s Oreshnik missile since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. The nuclear capable intermediate-range missile reportedly struck near Bila Tserkva, a city around 64 kilometers from Kyiv.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched around 90 missiles and 600 drones during the overnight assault. Along with the Oreshnik, Moscow reportedly used Iskander, Kinzhal, and Zircon missiles.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia also targeted water supply facilities before the high-demand summer season, calling for stronger responses from the United States and Europe.

European Leaders Condemn Russia’s Escalation

European officials strongly criticized the attack, describing the use of the Oreshnik missile as a dangerous escalation. European leaders accused Moscow of increasing tensions through what they described as nuclear intimidation tactics.

Russia said the strikes targeted military facilities and claimed they were retaliation for Ukrainian attacks inside Russian territory. Ukraine denies targeting civilians.
