What Chinese Regulators Allege

According to the official, Solana promoted its brand with the help of local entities, including advertising displayed on a building in Shanghai’s Lujiazui financial district. He also said the network offers technical services that support the creation and trading of cryptocurrencies, which Chinese rules treat as illegal financial activity.

A Pattern of Disrupted Events

This is the second reported interruption of a Solana event on the mainland in two years. A gathering in Shenzhen in October 2025 was cut short because of venue capacity and public safety concerns. Earlier this month, Solana Foundation president Lily Liu said the Shanghai event had been postponed to meet local requirements, after registrations jumped to four times what organizers had told authorities to expect.

Tougher Crypto Rules in China

In February, the central bank and several other agencies repeated their restrictions on crypto activity and added a new ban on issuing yuan linked stablecoins without approval. The Shanghai case shows how far these limits reach, covering not just trading but also marketing and technical services tied to digital assets.
