Coinbase Launches Crypto Derivatives for UK Professional Investors

Coinbase has introduced a range of derivatives products for professional investors in the UK, including perpetuals, dated futures, and crypto options, with access expanding progressively over the coming weeks. The offering spans more than 170 contracts across crypto, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange markets, with perpetual contracts available around the clock and leverage up to 50x.

Structured Options for Different Trading Strategies

Dated futures will come with fixed settlement dates and leverage up to 20x, while the options offering remains limited to crypto assets, including calls, puts, and multi-leg strategies. The rollout follows Coinbase’s recently secured MiFID license in the UK, which the company said enables it to offer derivatives contracts, with access restricted to investors meeting professional client eligibility requirements.

Part of Broader UK Expansion Strategy

This launch adds another category to Coinbase’s growing product lineup in the UK, following last week’s rollout of access to nearly 4,000 US stocks for eligible users. The company has been steadily expanding beyond crypto trading into equities, stablecoins, savings, and lending products as part of its broader strategy. In its most recent quarterly report, Coinbase noted that the majority of its net revenue now comes from sources other than bitcoin spot trading, while its share of global crypto trading volume reached a record high.
