Origins of the Holding

The wallet acquired its coins when bitcoin traded around $16,000, a price level seen in December 2017 and early January 2018, just weeks before that cycle’s peak near $20,000. At the time, the stack cost approximately $100 million. Today it is worth about $383 million, a gain of roughly 284%. The position had reached an even higher value of $726 million during bitcoin’s all-time high in October 2025.

A Holding Pattern That Stands Out

What makes this wallet notable is its timing through market cycles. Bitcoin dropped about 80% during 2018, falling to near $3,200, before climbing back to $69,000 in 2021 and then crashing to roughly $15,500 in November 2022, a point where this position briefly sat underwater five years after it was first built. The wallet remained untouched through all of that, and even stayed shut last year when bitcoin surged past $122,000, about seven times its original entry price.

Where the Coins Went

The transferred bitcoin landed at a new, unmarked wallet address rather than a known exchange deposit address, meaning no sale has taken place yet. Large holders often move funds between their own wallets for reasons such as upgrading custody setups, rotating security keys, settling estates, or preparing for a private over-the-counter sale that would not touch public order books.

A Different Story Than Other Sellers

This wallet’s activity contrasts with a separate group of long term holders reported on the same day, who bought near last year’s price highs and are now selling at a loss during the current bounce. This holder, by comparison, remains up 284% and has not sold any coins so far. Any future movement to a known exchange deposit address would be the clearer signal of an actual exit.
