European equities climbed for a fourth consecutive week as better than expected corporate earnings and rising takeover activity pushed major indexes to fresh record levels. The broad regional benchmark gained 0.3% on the day and rose 1.7% over the week, with technology and healthcare shares leading gains while energy stocks lagged behind.
Individual Movers Highlight the Week
One company surged nearly 10% after revealing plans to potentially sell off a large portion of its engineering business. Another energy firm jumped 26% after turning down a takeover offer from a Norwegian oil and gas producer. On the downside, a satellite communications company dropped more than 4% after issuing weaker-than-expected guidance.

Corporate profits across major European companies rose 17% in the second quarter, the strongest pace since late 2022. That strength has helped restore investor confidence in the region’s economic outlook, drawing renewed interest from fund managers after weeks of caution.
Money Flows Back Into European Funds
European equity funds recorded new inflows for the first time in three weeks, according to industry tracking data. The rally has also become more broad-based, with roughly three quarters of companies in the regional index now trading above their long-term average price levels, a signal often seen as a positive sign for continued market strength.
Risks Remain Despite the Rally
Even with the recent gains, analysts caution that geopolitical tensions and lighter summer trading volumes could increase market volatility in the weeks ahead. Ongoing negotiations involving a key global shipping route remain a point of concern for investors watching for potential disruptions. Market strategists say consolidation, rather than a sharp reversal, is the more likely path forward from here.
