France is moving ahead with stricter cybersecurity standards as the country prepares for future threats linked to quantum computing. The national cybersecurity agency ANSSI said it will stop certifying security products that do not support quantum-resistant encryption starting in 2027.

The announcement was made by ANSSI chief of staff Samih Souissi during the France Quantum 2026 Summit. He said businesses should begin purchasing quantum-safe products before 2030 as governments increase pressure on companies to modernize encryption systems.

ANSSI Certification Becomes Key Requirement for Vendors

ANSSI certification is required for products used by French government agencies and operators of critical infrastructure. Under the new plan, vendors that fail to support post-quantum cryptography could lose access to important public contracts.

Souissi said the issue goes beyond technology and involves regulation, industrial planning, governance, and digital sovereignty.

The French timeline is similar to the US NSA’s CNSA 2.0 policy, which requires new national security systems to support approved quantum-resistant algorithms by 2027.

The crypto industry is also preparing for possible quantum threats. Coinbase recently warned that proof of stake blockchains such as Ethereum and Solana may face higher risks because of the signature systems used to secure validators. Meanwhile, Algorand and Aptos are already developing post-quantum security upgrades.
