Iran has confirmed receiving proposals from several mediators aimed at easing tensions with the United States, while stressing that diplomatic efforts are continuing alongside its ongoing military response. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said at a weekly press briefing on Monday that Tehran had received the initiatives but declined to share specifics.

Qatar Reportedly Behind New Ceasefire Push

Baqaei’s comments followed reports that Qatar had put forward fresh proposals to restart negotiations between Tehran and Washington, including talk of a possible 10-day pause in strikes. He said mediators were working to stop further escalation, while making clear that Iran would keep responding to what it calls US aggression. He added that Iran’s armed forces were operating with strength and determination even as the country’s diplomatic channels stayed fully engaged.

Iran Denies Confusion Over Prior Agreement

Baqaei pushed back on reports claiming that differing interpretations of the Iran-US memorandum of understanding had caused it to collapse, calling those claims completely incorrect. He said the 14-point agreement had no ambiguous language and accused Washington of failing to meet its obligations. He pointed to Article 5, which he said clearly assigns Iran responsibility for managing the Strait of Hormuz going forward, in consultation with Oman and dialogue with regional countries.

Diplomacy And Military Action Described As Parallel Tools

Asked whether renewed talks with Washington were possible, Baqaei rejected the idea that Iran must choose between diplomacy and defense, describing them instead as complementary tools used depending on the situation.

Dispute Over School Strike And US Comments

Baqaei also rejected claims from US President Donald Trump suggesting images from a reported strike on a school in Minab were AI-generated, insisting the attack was carried out deliberately by the United States and calling it one of thousands of war crimes committed against Iranians.
