Israeli Strike on Tyre Kills Eight as Lebanon Conflict Threatens Wider Iran Peace Efforts

At least eight people were killed after Israeli airstrikes hit the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre on June 9, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. The attack came after the Israeli military issued an evacuation order covering the entire city, prompting many residents to flee while emergency teams helped move elderly people to temporary shelters.

The strike was one of the deadliest attacks on Tyre since fighting in Lebanon began in March. Videos from the area showed damaged buildings and debris scattered across roads, while rescue workers continued searching for survivors.

Lebanon Fighting Complicates US-Iran Diplomacy

The latest escalation comes a day after Israel and Iran halted direct attacks following an appeal from US President Donald Trump. However, Tehran warned that it could resume military action if Israel continues targeting Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group operating in Lebanon.

Trump is attempting to secure a broader agreement with Iran, but ongoing fighting in Lebanon remains a major obstacle. Iran has repeatedly stated that any long-term deal with Washington requires an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

Trump Warns Netanyahu Over Renewed Conflict

Trump confirmed that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and later revealed that he had cautioned him against reigniting direct conflict with Iran.

According to Trump, he warned Netanyahu to be careful and suggested that continued escalation could leave Israel with reduced US support.

US Navy Rescues Apache Helicopter Crew in Strait of Hormuz

Meanwhile, a US Apache helicopter went down in the Iranian-controlled Strait of Hormuz. The cause remains unclear, with officials investigating whether it was mechanical failure, hostile fire or another issue.

A US Navy surface drone located and rescued the two crew members from the water. US Central Command said both pilots were recovered within about two hours and were in stable condition. Trump later confirmed that neither pilot suffered injuries.

Trump said he may have an idea for a possible agreement with Iran within days, though no deal has yet been announced. Iran continues to demand sanctions relief, access to frozen assets and recognition of its control over the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States insists that any agreement must prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
