Lebanese state media reported that Israeli warplanes and drones targeted several areas across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley on Saturday. One of the deadliest strikes hit a residential building in the town of Barish, where a family of four, including two children, was killed.

The Lebanese army also confirmed that one soldier died in a separate strike near Nabatieh.

Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Accusations

Israeli officials said the military action came after Hezbollah launched more than 50 projectiles toward Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon overnight. Hezbollah did not officially claim responsibility but said it would not allow Israeli troops unrestricted movement inside Lebanese territory.

The ceasefire had reportedly started on Friday afternoon as part of broader diplomatic efforts connected to ongoing negotiations involving the United States and Iran.

US-Iran Talks Remain Uncertain

The situation in Lebanon is considered a major condition for planned US-Iran talks focused on Iran’s nuclear program and wider regional tensions. However, the start of those discussions remains unclear as fighting continues.

The proposed diplomatic process is linked to a temporary 14-point agreement aimed at reducing conflict across the region and stabilizing global oil markets. The deal also includes possible sanctions relief for Iran and financial support tied to reconstruction efforts.

Since the conflict escalated earlier this year, thousands of people have reportedly been killed across Iran and Lebanon, while energy markets continue reacting to instability in the region.
