Israeli forces recently captured the historic Beaufort Castle and the surrounding ridge, a strategic location overlooking large parts of southern Lebanon and northern Israel. Military officials said the operation aims to weaken Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and reduce threats against Israeli communities near the border.

Beaufort Castle Gains Strategic Importance

The capture of Beaufort Castle marks the first time Israeli forces have controlled the site since withdrawing from southern Lebanon in 2000. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said troops would remain in the area as part of a broader security zone.

According to the military, Hezbollah previously used positions around the ridge to launch hundreds of rockets and drones toward Israeli civilians and soldiers. Operations are also continuing near Nabatieh, a major Hezbollah stronghold.

Rising Tensions Despite Ceasefire

The latest escalation follows one of the heaviest days of Hezbollah attacks since the April ceasefire. Israeli authorities reported school closures and security restrictions in northern regions after rocket and drone fire intensified.

Lebanese sources reported multiple Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon, while one Israeli soldier was killed during the operation. The conflict continues to raise concerns about regional stability as diplomatic efforts struggle to secure a lasting peace.
